Wednesday, January 21st, 2009I guess even Verizon has opted to outsource their customer service. Just for fun, I went and priced a USB broadband device. I currently receive a 15% discount on accessories and service through my employer. The purchase process had an option to chat with cusomer service. I guess I could have been a little more patient, but then I might not have had anything to post about.
Please dial carefully
Wednesday, January 21st, 2009Everbody that owns a phone has gotten a wrong number. Never discount the effect of high technology. Monday night I got a text from a random number. It contained nothing but this photo.
I’d had a few and was in a good mood. I figured I owed this guy and his libido at least a notification that whatever he was after wasn’t to be reached by my phone number, so I texted him back with this.
Haven’t heard back from him. Heh heh. What would you have done?
No more! I’m Sirius!
Tuesday, January 20th, 2009
There’s a rumor that Sirius/XM plans to increase prices on certain features.
“Online Listening will cost $2.99 additional, and…multiple radios will increase to $8.99 a month.”
I have been a committed customer for years, but this is too much. This alone isn’t a big deal, but in the past couple of years they’ve really gone downhill and it’s no longer the great value for the money it once was.
They’ve failed to fight the FCC to continue to be able to manufacture radios that are still capable of broadcasting a strong enough signal so that additional gizmos aren’t necessary for clear reception. Up until 2006, the receivers had FM modulators that would work at a distance of up to 80 feet. Since then, you’re lucky if the FM modulator works at all. It’s so bad that at one time they were literally giving away what they called FM Direct adapters that installed into your car’s antenna line and pre-paid cards for the installation.
They’ve failed to maintain my favorite stations. First it was The Border. Then it was Swing Street. More recently it’s been the Punk Channel. If I love to listen to it, it goes away.
Their playlists and channel lineup have turned to absolute shit since the merger. There was a reason there were two separate companies, each with a devoted customer base. Sirius and XM offered very different types of listening experiences. If you wanted obscure music you couldn’t find anywhere else, you went with Sirius. If you wanted DJs to tell stupid stories and to hear music you were probably already familiar with, you went with XM. Now customers from both sides of the satellite radio fence are unhappy!
And here comes the rumor that they plan on charging more money for what’s become a sub-par service. A price hike would make me walk away and never look back. I would cancel all 3 of my accounts and take my $324 ($408, if you figure in the price hike) I saved the first year and buy myself a badass iPod.
I’ve had Sirius since 2004. I have spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars on service and hardware in that time. I have been a very satisfied customer in the past and that former satisfaction is the only reason I’m still with them. Now my Sirius subscription is on it’s last leg. If they fail to correct existing issues or if they cause me any more problems, such as costing me more money, I’m done.
Don’t you hate it
Tuesday, January 20th, 2009Star Wars, retold
Tuesday, January 20th, 2009By someone who hasn’t seen it.
My friend Amanda had never seen a whole Star Wars film. When I asked her if she wanted to watch the original trilogy she said that she would, but that she already knew what happens. So I took out my voice recorder and asked her to start from the top.
Most predictable news ever
Sunday, January 18th, 2009There’s a party in NYC for a movie about a gangster rapper. Violence ensues. I don’t think this should surprise anyone.
Police say four men were stabbed at a New York City nightclub advertising an after-party for the film premiere of “Notorious” about rapper Biggie Smalls.
Police said Saturday a 21-year-old victim stabbed numerous times was in critical condition at Brookdale Hospital. Three others were stable.
Found some old videos
Friday, January 16th, 2009I was looking for some pictures I had made for doing a couple Cafe Press projects but I guess they were among the many things I lost in my hard drive crash a couple years ago. I did find some silly videos I made a while back though. Feel free to mock me.
